Generations Campaign

Help us continue leading generations into a life-changing, ever-growing relationship with Jesus Christ.

First Church of Christ exists to lead generations into a life-changing, ever-growing relationship with Jesus Christ. And while this mission is accomplished by the Spirit of God working through us—His people—we have been given a great resource as a tool to help us facilitate this mission. That resource is our building and the property it resides on.

Each and every week we gather to worship at God’s throne and proclaim God’s word. And we are able to do this inside a dry and climate controlled building.

Having a building is a blessing. But every building eventually has needed repairs and ours is no exception to this. Knowing this, the elders and staff entered into a partnership with Smart Church Solutions in order to develop a long-term building and property strategic plan. And we are ready to enter into the first phase of this long-term plan which will target two necessary maintenance concerns: our roof and HVAC systems.

While these are not exciting elements of a building, they are two very important elements and both need to be addressed before we move forward with additional renovations and repurposing initiatives for our building and property.

You're invited...

to participate in the Generations Campaign, a 3-year fundraising campaign, designed to fund two goals:

Metal Roof

Replace our roof with a durable metal roof, including enhancing our roof insulation to improve efficiency for decades to come.

HVAC Systems

Replace our HVAC system with new, updated units. All our current units with the exception of one are on the verge of needing replaced.

By going with a metal roof...

We are literally setting up the impact of this project to go well into the lives of future generations as we’ll be able to get 50+ years of life out of the kind of metal roof that we’re going with.

Imagine...

By taking on this project together, we will be making it possible for today’s young families who have young kids to worship under the same roof as their future grandkids. For those who are parents of adult children, we will be making it possible for them to worship under the same roof as their future great-grandkids.

The alternative was to go with a typical shingle roof but because of the design of our building, a shingle roof would only afford us 10-15 years of life and we’d be passing another bill to the church 10-15 years into the future. And then we’d do it again a couple more times before we’d reach the lifespan of one metal roof installed this year and end up spending tens of thousands of dollars more than we would’ve otherwise.

How Will We Pay for This Project?

A combination of donations and financing.

Donations

The goal is to raise $350k through the Generations Capital Campaign over three years. We pray that you would ask the Lord for guidance on how much He is calling you to give above and beyond your regular giving to the church.

Financing

We are taking out a loan for $250k at a 7.5% rate. Our plan is to pay for this loan in 3 years or less as we complete the Generations Campaign. This will allow us to get the roof work done right away.

When does the Generations Campaign begin?

FAQ

What companies will be doing the work?

The roof work will be done by Bluffton Roofing. And the HVAC work will be done by Dunwiddie Heating, Air Conditioning & Plumbing, Inc.

Why are we opting for a metal roof?

Two reasons: (1) because of the design of our building, a shingle roof will have a limited life expectancy of 10-15 years, (2) a metal roof will be cheaper over time and last over 50 years.

How can I stay informed about the progress of the project?

There are a number of ways to stay informed. Once the project is underway, we will be giving monthly progress updates from stage. Digitally, we will keep you informed via email, social media, and this dedicated web page for the project, fccfamily.com/generations

Will there be any additional fundraising efforts beyond the initial campaign?

Our prayer is that the Generations Campaign will pay for this project in full.

How does this fit into the larger vision for our building and property?

Our partnership with Smart Church Solutions produced some exciting long-term possibilities for our building and property. But the leadership felt that we needed to prioritize these maintenance needs before we pursue doing re-purposing and renovation work.

Does the church have any current debt?

The loan we are taking out for this project is the only debt we (will) have.

Will there be any disruption to church activities during the construction period?

We don’t foresee there being any disruption to Sunday services or other events happening throughout the week.
